Bowery
The most ancient area of the City. This itinerary starts where the city of New York -New Amsterdam (back then)- was born. This route takes you through Little Italy, Chinatown, Bowery, all the way to Union Square. You will get a sense of the different eras of the City; from the first Dutch settlers, to Irish and Italian immigrants, through the rich culture of the Chinese and see beautiful modern developments along the way. An absolute must is McSorley's Ale house. Serving only two types of ale, light or dark you will truly feel transported back in time. Who doesn't want to say that they have drank where President Abe Lincoln has?! For a more modern cocktail make your way to St. Marks place where PDT (Please Don't Tell) serves up some of the best cocktails in the city. And in true prohibition style, the entrance is the phone booth in the hot dog joint. Lost? Just look for the big sign on a hot dog that says "eat me". Make sure to have a hot dog before or after, they are amazing.
